Scratch – Math Concepts: Online Course

Scratch – Math Concepts: Online Course: The word Mathematics is made up of two Greek words. The first word is ‘Manthenin’ which means to learn and the other is ‘Technique’ is an art of technique.

Mathematics is the common language of many other disciplines. Students should learn this language to understand the concepts used in those disciplines. Students should connect their mathematical learning to appropriate real-world contexts.

When you understand the concept of mathematics, you have reached a higher level in mathematics that allows you to think and process abstractly. This leads us to the difference between the concept of mathematics and the fact of mathematics.

Math fact is a known mathematical operation, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. The plural form of the word is “facts” but math facts are usually presented in one-fact per two-column page format. Math concept is an idea coming from mathematics. People understand them. People learn concepts by thinking, discussing, reading, listening and/or writing about them. For example, number line and coordinate axis are math concepts.

Math Concept in Scratch

The concept of mathematics is very important in every language for designing algorithms. If you have knowledge about the concept of math then you can easily understand and program. Similarly in Scratch Programming we can do the same with Math Skills and Math Concepts. In Scratch, students are applying math concepts from the very beginning. The scratch screen is open where you can see that the sprite (cat) is moving from one point to another, for this we need to use Cartesian coordinates. So first let’s understand Cartesian coordinates how sprites are moved around the screen.

Students can also use operations (such as arithmetic, logical, conditional etc.), geometry and measurement concepts such as coordinates, angles and length measurements. Also, this feature encourages creative problem solving, logical reasoning and collaboration.

Scratch can support mathematical skills development in the following ways:

SkillHow scratch support this skill
Applying and Problem SolvingUsing Math Concepts & applying appropriate strategies, Debugging Error, and Evaluate work
Communication & ExpressingDiscussing of problem solving, presenting and feedback
Integrating & ConnectingConnecting math idea in scratch, Integrating with other math activity
ReasoningExperiment test ideas, use realistic effect in your project
ImplementingProgram to execute with standard position
Understanding & RecallingUse basic scratch code to solve task

Very often, without any explicit teaching you can easily identify that students are using this skill from the beginning. All You Need is a Little Guidance to Design Any Project From Scratch.
