Scratch – Introduction to Scratch : Online Course

Scratch – Introduction to Scratch : Online Course: Welcome to Scratch Programming for School children! Its main purpose is to make it easier for newcomers or beginners to learn this programming language. So that children can understand programming and have fun. From this programming, we can easily create computer games, interactive stories, graphic art work , animation and all kinds of other multimedia projects. We can share these creations across the web. So children can easily familiar from this language.

In this introductory chapter you will learn some basic topic of scratch.

  1. Computer Program
  2. Program, Programmer, & Programming
  3. Define Scratch
  4. Scratch History
  5. Access the Scratch
  6. Explore the programming environment
  7. Create your first program
  8. Save / Load your Program
Computer Program

Computer Programming means creating a sequence of instructions to enable a computer to do something.

OR

Computer programming (often shortened to programming or coding) is the process of writing, testing, debugging/troubleshooting, and maintaining the source code of computer programs.

Program, Programmer, & Programming

The set of instructions given to the computer is called a program.

The person who writes a computer program is called programmer.

The job or process of writing a program is called Programming.

People can write programs using today’s computer languages that are almost like English. The languages that are nearly human are called high-level languages

Define Scratch
  • Scratch is a visual computer language that makes it easy to create interactive stories, music, games, art, and animations – and share those creations on the web.
  • Uses graphical blocks to create a program as opposed to typewritten commands.
  • Output is primarily visual
  • Made to be simple to use, but it contains all the elements of a programming language
  • The people who program on scratch are called Scratchers!
Name Scratch come from

Scratch takes its name from a technique used by disk jockeys called “scratching“, where vinyl records are clipped together and manipulated on a turntable to produce different sound effects and music. Ref by Wikipedia

Aims of this Research
  • To increase Constructivist learning opportunities.
  • To enable pupils become creators of digital content.
  • To encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own learning.
  • To provide opportunities for Collaborative Learning.
  • To engage and motivate pupils by making learning fun.
Use of Scratch allows to you
  • Create solutions to problems using computers
  • Study information
  • Invent algorithms
  • Write programs to implement the algorithms
  • Reuse a lot of existing program and machine parts
  • Error messages are very rare.
Scratch History

A brief history of scratch are following

  • The first version of Scratch was developed in 2003 by the Lifelong Kindergarten group, led by Mitchel Resnick, at the MIT Media Lab.
  • The first official website was originally launched in 2006. Scratch 1.0 was then later available to the public for download in January 8 2007.
  • The Scratch website after the release of public project sharing. In March 2007, project sharing was possible and the whole Scratch website was completely redesigned. The public were able to create, share and remix their own projects as well as others.
  • Scratch continued to update their site until late 2012 when they released Scratch 2.0 which offered many updates to the programming system and website design.
  • Scratch 3.0 was released on January 2, 2019. So many features is add in this version such as design a new website and add sound effect, video etc.
